The Dark

Till your eyes get used to the dark

you'll wonder about some of the sounds

but when your eyes get used to the dark

you'll see the rats running around.

Keep up your strength as long as you can

and they'll leave you alone for now.

Till your eyes get used to the dark

you'll wonder about where you are

but when your eyes get used to the dark

you'll miss the light more and more

and you'll wonder if anyone knows that you're here,

anyone outside that door.

Your eyes will get used to the dark

but your ears won't get used to the screams,

the cries of the women and children

as the guards do unspeakable things to them.

Till your eyes get used to the dark

the pain is all that you'll feel

but when your eyes get used to the dark

you'll still wonder about what is real,

but you will know you have no hope

and some of your scars will never heal.

Till your eyes get used to the dark

you might think that you're in a tomb

but when your eyes get used to the dark

you'll see it's just a cold empty room

and even in the dark you'll be able to see

the marks of some of your wounds.

Your eyes will get used to the dark

but your ears won't get used to the screams,

the cries of the women and children

as the guards do unspeakable things to them.
