At the Crossroads
Two roads go on ahead and will not meet again.
A kiss and the things you said about us parting as friends,
but at the crossroads where I hesitate
the things you said, they don't sound very true
though I don't know what else you could say.
When I walk I won't look back at you.
How did we get to here and how did it happen so soon?
Maybe I'll see it clear when I'm not standing next to you.
At the crossroads all that I can feel
is the hard edge of the road against my feet.
Anything else I once thought was real
now seems so far away from me.
Time comes to say good-bye and that's all that I can say.
I won't let you see me cry or even let you know I feel that way.
At the crossroads pieces of a dream,
they scatter so I won't get them back --
back to what I thought I believed.
Now I believe that's all there is to that.
