Raindrops Fall

I look out on the gathering storm

for the one who once stood by my side.

She looked so good when she stood there before

and I thought things were looking all right

but now she's not standing there any more

and something is clouding my eyes

and the raindrops fall, that's all.

I listen close for anything near

that could sound like her voice or footsteps

but there's nothing that I can hear

like the gentle, sweet things she said.

Just one careless sound comes to my ears,

a tap tap tap that doesn't end

and the raindrops fall, that's all.

I reach out my hand trembling and wish

for the soft touch of her hand to hold.

I remember one fiery kiss

and the promises that it told

but all I can feel at my fingertips

is the sting of something so cold

and the raindrops fall, that's all.
