The Horizon
When you see the waves roll to the shore
the water's not blue here any more.
It carries a deeper, darker stain
coming up from a mile down on the ocean floor
and every wave that reaches the land
leaves more of that stain behind on the sand.
It's slowly killing all of the plants
that grew here so well before.
And with all of this going wrong
you can't help but wonder what's on the horizon.
The lawmen from the nearby towns
all work for the oil company now
trying to keep the reporters out.
If you ask questions, they'll follow you around.
They take the dead birds away in the night
so there'll be no pictures of the way they died.
They keep those oily wings out of sight
so no evidence can be found.
And with all of this going wrong
you can't help but wonder what's on the horizon.
Deepwater Horizon...
Fires burn on the water far from land
while the company hides what it can,
pouring barrels of poison into the sea
to break up the oil so it won't look so bad
but whether the oil runs thin or thick
the dolphins and whales are dying near that slick
and none of the company's lies or tricks
can change any of that.
And with all of this going wrong
you can't help but wonder what's on the horizon.
Deepwater Horizon...
An explosion and fire on the Deepwater Horizon...
Your father and grandfather, they fished
and until lately, that was also what you did
but now that the fish have been poisoned
you're not sure how you are going to live.
Sometimes you can just smell the oil
as it creeps into every inch of the soil.
What was once good here now has been spoiled
and who knows when it will come back again.
And with all of this going wrong
you can't help but wonder what's on the horizon.
Deepwater Horizon...
An explosion and fire on the Deepwater Horizon...
Eleven men dead on the Deepwater Horizon...
