Ripples

Sometimes when you throw stones

the ripples take some time to come around.

Sometimes the pendulum can take some time

to swing back the way it came from.

You sent men off to fight and die

for what you knew was a pack of lies.

Now there stands an empty pair of boots

for each fallen soldier sent by you,

and now the ghosts of all those fallen soldiers

they all want to hear you tell the truth.

Sometimes when you throw stones...

You said the prisoners of your war

could not have their day in court.

You had to keep them locked away,

make them talk and put them in pain,

but most of them, we now find innocent

and we all want to hear what you have to say.

Sometimes when you throw stones...

In that country off to the east

the roads are lined with refugees

and everyone whose life has changed,

they will not forget your name

and the debt for all the blood and tears and sweat

our children's children will have to repay.
