Somebody's Watching

How would it feel to know you could be on video

doing just what you're doing now?

I hope you're ready for your closeup

when you look up, look down or turn around.

Walking down the street the cameras that you don't see

are picking up the pictures and the sound.

And when some stranger knows more about you than he ought to

you might start to wonder how.

Is somebody watching you

and will they come knocking

if they don't like what you do?

All in all it's getting wall to wall,

it's getting hard to find someplace unknown.

Criss-cross power lines, speed limit signs,

fences and ringing telephones.

Try as you might to get beyond their reach

out to some place where no one ever goes,

you might not see or hear a soul around

but still you can tell you're not alone.

Somebody's watching you

and they might come knocking

if they don't like what you do.

Riding in your car going to the store,

telling someone a dirty joke,

figuring out the amounts in your bank account,

writing your lover a little note,

having a brew or two watching a T.V. show

sitting on the couch in your flat,

talking politics smoking cigarettes

or even sitting on the can,

somebody's watching you

and they might come knocking

if they don't like what you do.
