Moon and Morning Sun

I saw a light shine up on a ridge

where I knew a light couldn't be

and then I saw that it was a star

shining down through the trees.

Maybe one wish could come true

if wishes on stars have come

and Marni is the moon and morning sun.

When she's here I think of things

that I don't know how to say.

I wrote a song for her that I sing

to the dark after she's gone away

but if I speak too soon

I could lose what I might have won

Can it be that for all my life

all I've learned is how to say good-bye?

I think of all the friends I used to have

that I don't know how to find

but I won't count the friends I've lost

if I can only have this one

Looking up at a cloudy sky

makes me want to see her face

because the light shining in her eyes

always brightens the night and day.

Where weeds and wildflowers bloom

maybe I could find a place for us
