Midnight City Lights

Midnight city lights,

half-asleep, empty streets,

your footsteps echo places where the shadows hide.

Flashing sign you walked right by.

Doors all locked, curtains drawn,

all the good people sleeping on the other side.

It's so bright under these midnight city lights.

You've got to get beyond these midnight city lights

but it's so dark beyond these midnight city lights.

Hitch-hiked, you got a ride.

They dropped you here nowhere near

anywhere that you had really wanted to go.

All alone, town is closed,

the street lights see you on your feet.

You've just got to move and that's all you really know.

It's so bright under these midnight city lights...

You never met a woman who could keep you satisfied

or keep you from catching the next ride.
